We’re on the hunt for an area rug for a residential project, specifically a wool rug with muted colors and an intentionally faded design that looks like the rug has aged beautifully over the years with its surroundings. Fortunately this weathered and washed look is a currently a strong trend so we have plenty of options. Especially beautiful in wool, this trend also extends into more affordable rug options made of synthetic fibers as shown in the options below from Joss & Main, Wayfair and FLOR.
We find this subtle look very refined and versatile. What are your thoughts? Would you choose a rug like this for your home vs. one with crisp patterns and bold colors?

Continuing our search for the perfect rug led us to visit to Rugs as Art for some locally available options. While there were a handful of beautiful wool rugs that have the weathered and faded look, I found it interesting that they all were limited to the light blue/green and beige family.

Modular carpet tile companies like FLOR are getting in on the trend as well with some beautiful designs like “Kensington” which we used in our own studio space. Although not wool, they still capture that beautifully aged look of intricate pattern organically fading into a washed and faded design. We custom blended three different patterns from the collection in two colors (gray and black) to create a “random” but balanced look.
Cheers!
