2017 Colors of the Year

Every year the design world’s top authorities on color and paint make their prediction of what color they think will be defining the year ahead. For 2017, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore and Pantone selected the following colors: Poised Taupe, Shadow and Greenery, respectively.

Poised Taupe and Shadow are moody, refined colors that work well in a residential design setting whereas we see Greenery mostly used for commercial spaces and branded environments. Below we’re sharing examples of how we’ve used these colors in residential and commercial projects at Space as Art.

This bedroom is the definition of calm and relaxing for a client who just loves neutrals, created with the use of light taupe fabrics accented with ivory and gray. We’re sometimes asked: what’s taupe? Taupe is a great neutral that is truly neutral: not too warm, and not too cool. “Poised Taupe” moves this versatile color just a little darker for 2017.

The dark, shadowy color on the back wall of this bathroom creates instant drama. The adjacent white walls add contrast and rich wood accents warm up the space and create a very rich palette. So we see a color like “Shadow” making an impact together with a high-contrast warm white.

The bright pop of green gives this office environment so much life and energy. Used in just the right amount it looks stylish and fresh. The green in this space also carries through our client’s brand color into the furnishings, contributing to this branded environment.

Cheers!
