Happy new year from all of us at Space as Art! We’re looking forward to 2017 and continuing to share with you what we love to do. With this new year we’d like to start a new tradition of showcasing our top “before & after” interior design projects of our year in review.
In mid-2016 we moved our office from Downtown Sarasota to Lakewood Ranch, and the new space went through quite the transformation in order to become our studio. From this neglected back area the previous owners had used mainly for file storage, we were able to design a welcoming and comfortable area to work while utilizing the existing concrete floors and garage door as part of the design. The fabric wall panels (an acoustic material that absorbs sound) and the glass window inserts were all key in taking this space from warehouse to warm.
This interior renovation on St. Armand’s Key started out with a pretty decent-looking kitchen, but underwent a big change in style and upgrade in function for our clients. The new kitchen is completely custom, with a unique mix of finishes and worktop heights on the cabinetry, and a cohesive design that now continues all the way to the home’s soaring 12′ ceilings, making the most of that feature. The new peninsula provides bar height seating, additional storage, built-in wine cooler, and a flip-down section of countertop to convert into a second island. We opened up the wall separating the kitchen from the family room, creating a more open and welcoming space while also allowing the natural light to flow deeper into the home.
This dining room already had sophisticated moulding details and rich wood flooring in place for us to work with. Our task was to build from there to make this the elegant dining room it always wanted to be, with subtle inserts of silk wallcovering, luxurious custom window treatments, designer furniture, and the perfect Swarovski crystal chandelier. Custom commissioned oil paintings anchor the room at each end and honor the home’s natural surroundings on the Intracoastal waterway.
This master bedroom went through an incredible transformation. We developed the very basic tray ceiling into a one-of-a-kind custom showpiece that now gives the room a cozy, cocoon-like feel. To up the drama we mixed decadent velvet fabric, silk wallcovering, and both stained and painted woods for a rich, dimensional warmth.
From our studio to you, we wish you a happy and prosperous 2017, and that this finds you basking in that shiny new year feeling. For us it brings new goals and refreshed motivation to embark upon the months ahead, building anew on the accomplishments of last year.
Happy 2017!
