Fresh out of the frame and onto the furniture, this trend in interior design textiles makes a bold, artsy statement. I love these fabrics as custom pillows to loosen and enliven a structured, well tailored chair. The largest scale abstract prints would also make an amazing headboard, like a giant gallery painting over the bed, but soft to the touch. We’re also starting to see large scale, painterly ombre fabrics used as dramatic window panels with a top-to-bottom gradient.
Here are my own picks from our studio library of 7 painterly fabrics in a variety of textures (from sheer linens to thick velvets) and scales (from small paint daubs to giant, abstract ombre) to enjoy.
