Work in Progress: New York Lake House

In order to honor the craftsman style of this existing home while interpreting our design-savvy client’s contemporary-neutral aesthetic, our challenge has been clear: to create a new style which does not yet exist.

This lake house redesign is one of the big projects we are working on currently. The existing home is primarily craftsman style in its architecture and features an abundance of orange-toned Douglas Fir interior trimwork. The solid wood itself is inherently beautiful in its own right, however the strong orange tones are in contrast to our client’s desired style- clean and contemporary with a soft, neutral “greige” palette.

We’ve Moved! And Our Phones are Still Catching Up.

Good News: We’ve moved! And this great view of downtown Sarasota is from our new front door.

Bad News: Our phones are temporarily down while we change carriers and upgrade our phone system to better serve our clients. We expect our new system to be fully operational by Friday, September 6. Between today and Friday we may likely experience a temporary phone outage.

We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage contacting us by email if telephones are not yet cooperating.

More details and photos of the new space will be posted soon!

Tropical Master Bath Renovation, Casey Key

We recently completed this master bath renovation for a client’s waterfront home on Casey Key. Their existing bath design was feeling bland and its shotgun floor plan wasn’t working for these homeowners. So we reconfigured the layout, removing the existing corner tub in favor of a large, luxurious shower and increased closet space.  Since the footprint is narrow, we replaced some solid walls with translucent glass to afford privacy while allowing a sense of openness. Playroom Design Featured in SRQ Magazine

We recently had the pleasure of designing this fun kids’ playroom in a clients’ home. Our clients asked for a playroom that would appeal to their three young children while still maintaining the sophisticated style of the rest of the home. The finished design features graphic stripes with contemporary tree murals inspired by the natural setting of the home, custom-colored chalkboard paint, cozy lounge furniture with soft, washable covers, and a puzzle rug. We also strategically integrated stylish storage and flexible activity zones to encourage imaginative play without TV. Read more

Space as Art in March 2012 SRQ Magazine

For its March 2012, “Home of the Year” issue, SRQ Magazine called on a few local designers, architects, and builders for tips on what’s hot in home design. Check it out, it’s a great issue! And I don’t just say that because we’re in it…

“Drapery isn’t just for windows anymore: There’s nothing like a well-placed cascade of fabric to give a room instant glamour. Try hanging drapery behind a bed as a headboard or on a wall to either side of a great piece of art. Mount the rods close to the ceiling to accentuate height and add drama.” —Angela Rodriguez, Space as Art, Sarasota

“Varied texture is key: In every great interior, balance of texture is just as important as balance of color. Natural textures are especially hot right now.” —Angela Rodriguez, Space as Art, Sarasota
