The top area publication has awarded our recent Casey Key master bathroom renovation project as its Platinum award-winning bath of 2013, featured in its annual “Home of the Year” issue on newsstands now. 2012 has been a busy, exciting year at Space as Art. We grew into our new studio space where we worked on a variety of hospitality, commercial, and private residential projects as a team for some great clients. As the year comes to a close we are thankful for all the blessings of 2012 and look forward to embarking on new design adventures in 2013!

We recently completed this master bath renovation for a client’s waterfront home on Casey Key. Their existing bath design was feeling bland and its shotgun floor plan wasn’t working for these homeowners. So we reconfigured the layout, removing the existing corner tub in favor of a large, luxurious shower and increased closet space. Since the footprint is narrow, we replaced some solid walls with translucent glass to afford privacy while allowing a sense of openness.

New design features of this tropical spa-inspired retreat include teak “stepping stones” over a field of black river rock and a floating white stone vanity between custom teak and glass storage towers. The new ceiling is lowered slightly to conceal indirect lighting to lightly graze the walls in the evening, and a central raised area finished in backpainted glass to be reminiscent of a skylight.
We recently had the pleasure of designing this fun kids’ playroom in a clients’ home. Our clients asked for a playroom that would appeal to their three young children while still maintaining the sophisticated style of the rest of the home. The finished design features graphic stripes with contemporary tree murals inspired by the natural setting of the home, custom-colored chalkboard paint, cozy lounge furniture with soft, washable covers, and a puzzle rug. We also strategically integrated stylish storage and flexible activity zones to encourage imaginative play without TV.
And how unbelievably cute are these kids?!

It’s that time of year again! We just returned from the 2011 HD Boutique Conference in Miami Beach, where we attended great design conference sessions and took in the exhibition floor to view the latest and greatest interior products out this year. Restaurant designer Tony Chi’s keynote was fantastic, the conference sessions informative, and the exhibit floor full of exciting new product introductions to share with our clients. A recent day trip to the Miromar Design Center in Estero, FL sent us back to our Sarasota studio with minds full of creative inspiration- and arms full of samples- for our current projects. We spent all day there hunting for furniture and scouring the fabric showrooms (open to the design trade only) top to bottom for just the right selections among the thousands of options for our clients.

A recently completed project designed by Space as Art, a fourth floor, 5,231 square foot Gulf front condominium residence called “Nautica” has been selected for the 2011 Tampa Bay Parade of Homes.
With 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and views of both the Gulf and Intracoastal throughout the unit, this residence, listed for sale at $1.625 million, was just completed in March and was a true pleasure to design. “Nautica” can be toured this month during the Parade of Homes and photos will soon be added here to the Space as Art website.
