In a recent search for spherical pendant lights for a current interior design project, I gathered these gems to share. Call them globe pendants, round pendants, spherical pendants, orb pendants, these lights can bring major impact to almost any interior. I especially like the way they soften and provide geometric contrast to spaces that include a lot of straight lines, such as kitchens. Read more

Last week our design team took a little road trip to Dania Beach for project sourcing and Winter Market 2015 at the Design Center of the Americas. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, DCOTA is one of the world’s largest design campuses, offering hundreds of thousands of square feet of furniture, fabric, kitchen, plumbing, and lighting showrooms to the interior design trade. During this week Winter Market was held, showcasing new product introductions, speakers, and other events. Do you have a formal dining room? (formal as in a separate room with at least 3 walls, not as in stylistically formal)
Do you use it often enough for its intended purpose to justify dedicating the square footage it claims in your home? Ever wish you could use the space more effectively, but don’t want to sacrifice your dining furniture and the flexibility to occasionally host larger gatherings? Read more

Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015 is a controversial pick. A wine red shade aptly titled “Marsala” is predicted by Pantone to play a major role in interior design, fashion, beauty, and consumer goods in 2015.
I’ll be honest. My first thought was: oh no, not again. Read more
Well-selected lighting and plumbing fixtures are the jewelry of the home. At least this is how I view them. So I think naturally the trends we see in jewelry, we’ll also see sometimes picked up in a pendant light or a faucet. (I don’t think this relationship works as well in reverse, though to their credit the marketing minds at Moen have tried the whole faucet-as-necklace look…but I digress) Read more
Pablo and I had an incredible time this week at the HD Americas 2014 hospitality design conference and expo at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Hospitality Design magazine assembled a truly fantastic group of speakers and panelists to discuss various topics centered around the hotel, resort, and restaurant design markets in the US and Latin America. In order to honor the craftsman style of this existing home while interpreting our design-savvy client’s contemporary-neutral aesthetic, our challenge has been clear: to create a new style which does not yet exist.
This lake house redesign is one of the big projects we are working on currently. The existing home is primarily craftsman style in its architecture and features an abundance of orange-toned Douglas Fir interior trimwork. The solid wood itself is inherently beautiful in its own right, however the strong orange tones are in contrast to our client’s desired style- clean and contemporary with a soft, neutral “greige” palette.
